Sunday 10th January
The four northern Bishops of the Church of Ireland communicated on Thursday 7th January the following statement:
“In light of the current serious and worsening situation and in line with clear public health guidance that people should stay at home, we have decided that all public gatherings for worship and all other in person church activities should cease for our particular denomination, until Saturday 6thFebruary 2021.”
“In making this decision for the ‘greater good’ of all within our community we continue to remember in our prayers the sick and bereaved, all who are suffering, those whose lives have been directly impacted by Covid-19, praying too for those in positions of responsibility who are faced with making difficult decisions at this challenging time.”
Christ Church Select Vestry met on Zoom on Wednesday 6th January to review the witness, worship, and pastoral care of the parish, and their ‘duty of care’ to clergy, staff, welcome team, volunteers, parishioners, and those attending funerals or baptisms. Following this review, the Vestry thoroughly endorses these measures for the remainder of this lockdown, meaning that our church building will now be closed for public worship, funerals, private prayer and baptisms. As such, we will livestream our worship on Sunday mornings. The parish office will also be closed in this period.
The clergy team will support all parish families at this time and in particular those whohad been planning a baptism or who will face a bereavement.
We continue to thank all parishioners for their support of the parish in these days and loving one another. Continue to keep connected with the Lord, one another and those in the community
We commend the prayer that Bishop George used in his letter to us all on Thursday, the collect for Epiphany:
Lord God, the bright splendour whom the nations seek: May we, who with the wise men have been drawn by your light, discern the glory of your presence in your incarnate Son; who suffered, died, and was buried, and who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
